WebHematuria Differential Diagnosis: Hematuria is blood in the urine. There are two types of blood in the urine exist. It may be grossly visible (macroscopic) or detectable only on urine examination (called microscopic). In many patients, particularly young adult patients, the hematuria is transient and of no consequence. WebHematuria is common in the primary care setting. It is classified as either gross or microscopic. Hematuria warrants a thorough history and physical to determine potential causes and assess risk factors for malignancy. Risk of malignancy with gross hematuria is greater than 10%, and prompt urologic referral is recommended.
