SpletDeb Bisel talks about the history behind the Potawatomie Trail of Death, another significate place in Kansas history. SpletThere were 15,000 Cherokees who started west but about 4,000 died. Nearly every Indian tribe suffered a forced removal, even the western Indians. The Navajo removal in 1863 was known as The Long Walk. Many euphemisms exist but the Trail of Death is the real name for the forced removal of the Potawatomi from Indiana to Kansas.
